With nonfungible tokens (NFTs) causing more than a bit of disruption in the art world, more artists are hopping on the NFT bandwagon. Mr. Doodle is another newcomer to the digital genre, releasing his first NFT artwork titled ESC. The digital artwork will feature computers, robots, and cryptocurrency-eating aliens, and it will be available to acquire by collectors for a 12-minute period.
Set for release through NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway, ESC is themed around a digital and mechanical universe. Traditionally, Mr Doodle hand-draws pieces on canvases and large-scale installations. His ESC takes advantage of the NFT format to showcase his doodles assembling, interacting, and dismantling over time.
If you are like me, by now, you may be asking, “Who the @#$% is Mr. Doodle?” Well, there’s usually an answer for everything.
Mr. Doodle, a.k.a. Sam Fox, is an artist with 2.7-million followers on Instagram. Doodle’s work decorates surfaces from sketchbooks, guerrilla art giveaways, subway tunnels, and outdoor installations. His 2019 Spring canvas sold for almost $1 million at the Tokyo Chuo Auction in 2020.
ESC will be Mr. Doodle’s first digital artwork from the five-part ESC series. Four additional NFTs, titled CTRL, ALT, DELETE, and SHIFT, are set for release at a later date. For more details, visit Pearl Lam Galleries and Nifty Gateway.
