Designer Daan Roosegaarde and his team unveil Urban Sun, which they are calling the world’s first artificial sun that sanitizes public spaces of the coronavirus. The artificial sun uses a safe far-UVC 222 nanometers light.
Successfully launching in Rotterdam, Urban Sun is going on a world tour. Locations include the Aarhus Festival in Denmark, Museum of Design Atlanta in the US, the Netherlands Pavilion at the World Expo 2020 Dubai, and others in the future.
Although traditional 254-nm UV light is harmful, the specific light wavelength of 222 nm is safe for both people and animals. It’s capable of reducing the coronavirus up to 99.9%, validated by multiple scientists. Urban Sun acts as an additional layer of protection next to current government regulations.
Urban Sun will travel internationally as a solution to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Urban Sun will be at the Aarhus Festival, Northern Europe’s largest cultural event in Denmark from August 27, 2021 to September 5, 2021. The Museum of Design Atlanta in the USA will display Urban Sun at the exhibition “Survival Architecture and the Art of Resilience” at the end of August. And the Urban Sun movie debuts at the Netherlands Pavilion of the World Expo 2020 Dubai.
