The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is partnering with self-driving truck technology provider Plus (formerly Plus.ai) to create autonomous trucks. The companies’ mutual goal is to elevate the intelligent and connected transformation of the logistics industry. Goodyear’s suite of services, which includes connected tires, will boost transportation efficiency and safety for semi-trucks powered by Plus’s Level 4 autonomous driving technology while also reducing carbon emissions.
Goodyear and Plus are analyzing how Plus’s autonomous driving system can pipeline feedback from Goodyear’s connected tires into Plus’s online, machine-learning based application to improve fuel economy. Reportedly, integrating intelligent tires with the autonomous driving system can also improve vehicle performance in extreme weather and harsh road conditions.
Plus is currently deploying its PlusDrive driver-in autonomous driving platform and expects to start production of the First Automobile Works (FAW) J7 L3 truck powered by PlusDrive in the third quarter of 2021.
