High-Power TFT Chip Resistors Thwart Moisture

Vishay Intertechnology’s PHPA series AEC-Q200 qualified, thin-film technology (TFT) wrap-around chip resistors feature power ratings up to 2.5W and boast excellent moisture resistance via a self-passivated tantalum nitride film. Available in 1206 (1W) and 2512 (2.5W) case sizes, the components specify low TCRs down to ±25 ppm/°C and tolerances to ±0.1%.

PHPA series components offer a resistance range from 10Ω to 30.1 kΩ, a noise figure of less than -30 dB, low-voltage coefficients of <0.1 ppm/V, and a working voltage of 200V. Employing a high-purity-ceramic substrate, the resistors integrate enlarged backside terminations to reduce thermal resistance between the topside resistor layer and the solder joint on the PCB.

Flame-resistant in accordance with UL 94 V-0, operating temperature ranges from -55°C to +155°C. Target applications for the PHPA series resistors include automotive power supplies, braking systems, on-board chargers, motor deflection circuits, and industrial test-and-measurement equipment.

Samples and production quantities are available now with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks. Pricing for US delivery varies by tolerance, TCR, and case size. For example, typical pricing for the 1206 case size with a ±0.1% tolerance and TCR of ±25 ppm/°C is $0.48 each/1,000.
