High-Res Sensor Extends ADAS Detection Range

by Mat Dirjish

To help automakers improve how their advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) sense objects, Texas Instruments claims its AWR2944 high-resolution 77-GHz radar sensor detects objects up to 40% farther away from the vehicle. This increase in ability to quickly detect objects, monitor blind spots, and efficiently navigate turns and corners promises a collision-free future.

Approximately 30% smaller, the AWR2944 integrates a fourth transmitter to provide a 33% higher resolution than existing radar sensors. The sensor’s hardware employs Doppler division multiple access (DDMA)-based signal processing to improve the ability to sense oncoming vehicles at greater distances.

Price for the AWR2944 is $23.95 each/1,000. An evaluation module, the AWR2944EVM, is available for $549. For greater gleanings, procure and peruse the AWR2944 datasheet.
