TravelX, a company creating a blockchain-based distribution protocol in the travel industry, is partnering with Spain’s third largest airline, Air Europa, to release what they say is the world’s first non-fungible token (NFT) flight ticket series. Called NFTickets, the virgin flight is set for
November 29, 2022.
With purchase, NFTicket owners receive access to a special Air Europa flight to Miami Beach in November as well as perks and events ahead of a premier art show of the Americas taking place in Miami Beach in December. In partnership with notable artists, a series of 10 NFTickets will go on the auction block April 11, 2022 and every 14 days thereafter via the Travel Exchange auction platform.
NFTickets function as traditional NFTs. When ready to use, the owner presents the NFT and receives a matching flight ticket.
Curated by Ximena Caminos, the NFTicket series, called The Art as the Destination, features the work of multi-disciplinary artist Carlos Betancourt for the first piece. His artworks appear in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art NY and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery DC.
To celebrate, TravelX is hosting an invite-only event at the Eiffel Tower, amid Paris NFT Day (April 12) and Paris Blockchain Week (April 13-14), where the company will reveal the final bid for the first NFTicket. For more NFTickets details, visit the TravelX website.
