Multi-Function Kit And Book Lets Synth Players Patch, Tweak, Build, And Explore

by Mat Dirjish

Noted synthesizer maker KORG is partnering with book publisher Bjooks to offer what the companies describe as the KORG and ARP synthesizer exploration experience in the form of a special, limited edition hardware and book bundle. The bundle combines the NTS-2, a multifunctional tool for musicians, and the “PATCH & TWEAK with KORG” book, which provides a comprehensive look at semi-modular synthesis via KORG’s and ARP’s synthesizers.

The Nu:Tekt NTS-2 packs a plethora of useful studio functions in a pocket-size package. It includes a four-channel oscilloscope to monitor and analyze audio and control-voltage signals, a waveform generator, spectrum analyzer, and tuner functions.

With dual stereo inputs, the oscilloscope displays up to four signals simultaneously. A variety of display modes enables users to view data in color on a 240 x 320 pixel 2.8-in. LCD. And the user interface features dedicated menu buttons and a clickable encoder knob.

To analyze any signal, the NTS-2 includes a dedicated Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) mode with a real-time spectrum analyzer. It also provides a wave-generator mode employing two oscillators with dedicated outputs. Each oscillator can create sine, square, triangle, sawtooth, pulse, and noise waveforms that the user can shape and phase for a variety of applications. Other kit features include a precise and easy-to-use tuner with multiple display modes.

Additionally, the NTS-2 kit is easy to assemble. No soldering is necessary and the assembly process takes less than 20 minutes. For power, the kit relies on batteries or a USB-C power supply.

The “PATCH & TWEAK with KORG” book is the latest title in the “PATCH & TWEAK” series from publisher Bjooks. It’s a comprehensive guide to semi-modular synthesis  with a focus on the MS-20 Mini, volca modular, the reimagined ARP 2600 M, and the SQ-1 and SQ-64 sequencers.

The book also provides numerous tutorials, tips, and tricks and covers everything from the basics to advanced sound design methods. The book also includes interviews with established and emerging artists, insights from KORG and ARP engineers, and detailed timelines of KORG’s and ARP’s keyboards.

For deeper details and data, peruse the NTS-2 specs page. To learn more about the book, visit the Bjooks website.
