Computer-aided design  (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software provider Vectorworks is set to launch the 2023 version of its product line with a focus on process automation. According to the company, the forthcoming software—Vectorworks Architect, Landmark, Spotlight and Fundamentals, plus 2023 versions of ConnectCAD, Braceworks and Vision—provides time-saving tools that automate tedious processes, letting engineers focus more on high-quality design.

Vectorworks 2023 to provide time-saving benefits to designers.

Vectorworks 2023 packs significant updates architectural BIM workflows. Core architectural objects are more intuitive through all phases of a project, reducing the amount of manual work necessary to create and edit day-to-day documentation. Other updates include a new Graphic Legends tool that completely removes the manual process of creating graphic legends. Also, users can create and edit door and window objects by drawing a rectangle on the face of the wall in 3D or a line spanning the opening in 2D.

For interoperability and collaboration, new Revit file import options give more flexibility when collaborating. Vectorworks will support the translation of more Revit object types and provide better organization of imported file data. Reportedly, users will experience better, faster and more accurate BIM collaboration when using BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) files.

Improving the user experience, a new Home Screen provides a single source for starting, learning, training, and other growth opportunities. A new Offset Edge tool enables a smooth 3D modeling process that allows for offset edges and push/pull faces from both planar and non-planar surfaces. Additionally, updates to the Shaded Render Mode support an unlimited number of light sources, environmental lighting, and reflections and object reflections to ensure high quality rendering.

User experience

The latest version of Vectorworks Landmark 2023 introduces significant improvements to site grading by providing more site-modifier modes that allow site designers to create more complex grading projects. These updates also add more intuitive ways to account for proper drainage, vehicular and pedestrian use, and better control through contour drawing and editing. Via a partnership with Laubwerk, version 2023 also adds a new and extensive library of 3D plant geometry with a wide range of detail levels, seasonal changes, and growth representations for more accurate 3D plant representation.

Vectorworks suite of entertainment products version 2023 will see upgrades to the most important tools that lessen the amount of manual work, providing entertainment designers with more effective and efficient workflows. For example, upgrades to the Spotlight Cable tools make cable configuration faster and more intuitive. Users will be able to define the entry and exit of cables in a cable run. Also, a new Property View tab in the Power Planning palette will allow for easier selection and editing of objects and updates to the cable path and will allow reporting of all associated cables to a Data Tag for ease of documentation.
