Collaborators Introduce Universal Sensor-Development Platform

by Mat Dirjish

Designer of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors Bosch Sensortec GmbH and Espressif Systems, developer of the industry’s first full-stack AIoT platform, are collaborating on the creation of a universal sensor-development platform. Together, they are launching the ESP-SensairShuttle development platform, a modular system with interchangeable shuttle sensor boards employing Bosch Sensortec’s MEMS sensors.

As per the partners, the platform enables developers to efficiently build and validate multi-sensor fusion designs for environmental, motion, and magnetic-sensing applications. It promises to significantly reduce development barriers with ready-to-use software and wireless connectivity.

Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO at Bosch, explains, “Through our collaboration with Espressif, we are effectively democratizing our advanced sensor technology. Their support in fostering our ecosystem is invaluable in driving sensor adoption across diverse consumer applications and shaping next-generation IoT solutions.” says Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO at Bosch

Teo Swee Ann, Founder and CEO of Espressif, adds, “By integrating Bosch Sensortec’s proven, high-performance MEMS sensors into our platforms, we enable our customers to build robust and precise sensing solutions for virtually any application—supported by uncompromising quality at the foundational level.”

The ESP‑SensairShuttle platform supports multiple Espressif shuttle boards, featuring Bosch Sensortec sensors including:

  • BME690 Shuttle Board supports the BME690gas sensor. It integrates temperature, humidity, pressure, and air‑quality (VOC and CO₂‑equivalent) sensing.
  • BMI270 Shuttle Board features intuitive gesture, context, and activity recognition with an integral plug‑and‑play step counter.
  • BMM350 Shuttle Board targets portable devices, adopts Tunnel Magneto‑Resistance (TMR) technology.

Additionally, the ESP-SensairShuttle platform integrates pre-loaded Bosch factory firmware that allows users to access real-time sensor data and execute Bosch algorithms for applications including motion recognition, orientation detection, and environmental sensing. The platform also supports Espressif’s ESP-IDF framework and Bosch’s open-source software components.
