Aluminum Power Cap Series Extends Voltage Ratings

by Mat Dirjish

Vishay Intertechnology is extending its 193 PUR-SI series of miniature snap-in power aluminum electrolytic capacitors with voltage ratings of 550V and 600V. As per Vishay, the components handle up to 30% higher ripple current than standard capacitors in similar case sizes and offer a longer working life.

Designers often use three 400V to 450V capacitors in series with voltage-balancing resistors across each capacitor to handle dc bus voltages up to 1.1 kV. This adds design complexity and potential failure points. With higher voltage ratings up to 600V, the 193 PUR-SI series components allow designers to achieve this voltage range with fewer components, while eliminating the need for voltage balancing circuits. Also, the added voltage headroom extends capacitor lifetimes and system reliability.

Capable of withstanding the switching currents of high-power converters, the 193 PUR-SI series can handle ripple currents up to 3.27A. Other features include a useful life of 5,000 hours at +105°C, capacitances from 47 µF to 820 µF, and 25 compact case sizes ranging from 22 mm x 25 mm to 35 mm x 60 mm.

Samples of the 193 PUR-SI series capacitors are available from catalog houses in small quantities. Production quantities are available now with lead times of 18 weeks. Pricing for US delivery starts at $1.78 each. For deeper details, procure and peruse the 193 PUR-SI series datasheet.
