Highly Accurate Linear Position Sensor Basks In Harsh Environments

by Mat Dirjish

Deployable in harsh, rugged applications, Vishay Intertechnology’s 40 LHE linear position sensor promises high accuracy performance. Employing non-contacting Hall Effect technology, the component delivers linearity down to ±1% full stroke, a resolution of 12 µm, lifespan beyond 10 million cycles, and it comes in a compact 35 mm x 14.5 mm x 28 mm package.

The 40 LHE is suitable for use in servo-loop motion-control systems requiring small displacement monitoring, such as infrastructure integrity monitoring, digital farming, in-line process measurement, robotic grippers, and medical robotics. The sensor will also find employment in throttle and pedal position sensors for e-bikes and motorcycles, railway equipment and ships, and agricultural machinery.

Other features include IP67 sealing, the ability to withstand high frequency vibration up to 20g and shocks up to 50g, and reverse- and over-voltage input protections. The sensor provides analog ratiometric or digital PWM output signals and includes fixing holes for horizontal or vertical mounting.

Additionally, the 40 LHE operates with a supply voltage of 5 VDC ±10 % and a supply current of less than 16 mA typical. Recommended load resistance is 1 kΩ for both analog and PWM output.

Samples and production quantities of the 40 LHE are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks. Pricing for US delivery starts at $18 each/1,000. For more details, procure and peruse the 40 LHE datasheet.
