Compact TMR Linear Sensors Boost Optical Image Stabilization

by Mat Dirjish

MultiDimension Technology (MDT), a manufacturer of magnetic sensors employing Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) technology, announces the production of its TMR2531 and TMR2539 linear sensor series. The components target high-precision smartphone optical image stabilization (OIS) applications.

Addressing the accuracy demands of next-gen smartphone cameras, the sensors enable micron-level displacement measurement in voice coil motor (VCM) modules, allowing VCM driver ICs to correct camera shake in real time. Both components measure the Z-axis perpendicular magnetic field amplitude via a Wheatstone full-bridge configuration with four high-signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) TMR elements.

Features of the TMR2531/TMR2539 series include:

  • Micron-level positioning accuracy for OIS.
  • TMR2531: ±1,000 Gauss linear range.
  • TMR2539: Extended ±1,500 Gauss linear range.
  • In-plane magnetic field immunity: shielding capability at ±3,000 Gauss for stable operation in interference-prone VCM environments.
  • Wide supply voltage: 1V to 5.5V.
  • Compact DFN4L packages measuring 0.8 mm x 0.5 mm x 0.25 mm.
