Sony Electronics’ latest imaging offering, the FX5, is a full-frame camera in its Cinema Line series. It features a new, fully stacked CMOS image sensor that promises to boost sensitivity performance with 15+ stops of dynamic range, three base ISO settings, and a Dual Gain shooting mode. Also, the FX5 is the first camera in the series to support Open Gate shooting and in-camera recording in Sony’s proprietary X-OCN RAW format.
The camera shoots 5K at speeds up to 60 fps, 4K up to 120 fps, and FHD up to 240 fps. Also available are two optional accessories: a detachable OLED viewfinder and an XLR handle unit that records in-camera at up to 96 kHz, 32-bit float.
The ILME-FX5 with XLR Handle Unit will be available mid-August for a suggested retail price of $5,499.99. Also available mid-August, the ILME-FX5B body will be available for $4,899.99.
