Y1 Safety Capacitors Enable Product Miniaturization

by Mat Dirjish

According to Vishay Intertechnology, its SMDY1…S series Y1 safety capacitors require up to 40% less board space than the company’s previous-generation components, thereby enabling product miniaturization. They feature a Y1 rating of 300 Vac and 1.5 kVdc in a surface-mount case, comply with IEC 60384-14, and carry UL, CSA, VDE, ENEC, and CQC certifications.

As per Vishay, industry standards for insulation resistance and operating temperature range are 6,000 MΩ and -40°C to +125°C, respectively. The company’s SMDY1…S series offers enhanced performance with insulation resistance greater than or equal to 10,000 MΩ and an operating temperature range from -55°C to +125°C.

The surface-mount design of the series supports pick and place assembly with a reflow soldering process. RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, the capacitors consist of a copper- and silver-plated ceramic disc and flame-resistant epoxy resin encapsulation in accordance with UL 94 V-0. The capacitors are available in A (10 pF to 680 pF) and B (1,000 pF to 1,500 pF) case sizes.

Samples and production quantities are available now with lead times of 12 weeks. For greater gleanings, procure and peruse the of the SMDY1…S series datasheet.
