Support Surface Takes Pressure Injury Treatment To New Levels

by Mat Dirjish

Med-tech company Blue Chip Medical Products claims its Pro-Daptive SensorCell support surface will usher in a new era of pressure injury treatment. The company sees their creation as a cost-effective alternative to air-fluidized therapy that provides customizable immersion, advanced pressure control, targeted offloading, and continuity of therapy across from health facility to home.

Now commercially available, the surface employs the company’s patented SensorCells provide real-time pressure visualization, customizable immersion, and complete targeted offloading. Reportedly, these capabilities provide dynamically adaptive therapy that clinicians can customize to an individual’s unique anatomy, clinical condition, and specific wound care needs. The system is viable for the prevention and treatment of complex pressure injuries including Stage III, Stage IV, and unstageable wounds, as well as post-flap and post-graft care.

Designed for hospitals, wound care clinics, long-term care facilities, and home care, Ron Resnick, President and Founder of Blue Chip Medical Products, explains, “Advanced wound care should not end at the facility door. Pro-Daptive SensorCell enables clinicians to personalize surface therapy according to the individual’s anatomy, wound location, and changing clinical needs. That advanced therapy can also continue across the continuum of care, including in the home.”

As per the company, alternating pressure mattresses use large air bladders and settings based on body weight. While Air Fluidized Therapy provides substantial immersion and envelopment, its clinical limitations can include surface instability, difficult patient repositioning and transfers, increased fluid loss, high acquisition and maintenance costs, labor-intensive operation, and limited practicality for home use.

As per its maker, Pro-Daptive SensorCell addresses limitations of both approaches. SensorCells respond independently and dynamically to changes in position and load, creating an adaptable therapeutic surface. Six therapeutic modes provide clinicians with precise controls that include:

  1. Immersion and Custom Immersion.
  2. Heel Float.
  3. Cavity Creation.
  4. Dynamic Offloading.
  5. Mobility.
  6. Heel Float and Cavity Creation.

Pro-Daptive SensorCell is available from Blue Chip Medical Products in 36-in. and 42-in. widths. To request product information or schedule a clinical demonstration, peruse the Pro-Daptive SensorCell product page or call 800-795-6115.
