After years of collaboration with guitar master Matteo Mancuso, multi-musical-instrument maker Yamaha has unveiled its Matteo Mancuso Signature Revstar (RS20MM) electric guitar. For those who may not know, Matteo Mancuso is a virtuoso guitarist and composer who hails from my “momma’s hometown” of Palermo, Sicily. He is notable for his unique playing technique, which eschews a guitar pick in favor of a flamenco/classical flavored fingerstyle approach. Additionally, signore Mancuso has received high praise from guitar icons the likes of Al Di Meola, Jason Becker, Joe Bonamassa, and Steve Vai, who dubs him “the future of electric guitar.”
As per Yamaha, its RS20MM delivers the performance characteristics, tonal philosophy, and playability refinements of Mancuso’s primary instrument. It is the second artist-signature model in the Revstar lineup and boasts the versatility to support a wide range of musical styles. Employing the same DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary pickups in Mancuso’s custom guitar, the instrument promises eyebrow-raising clarity, sustain, and dynamic response.
Based on Yamaha Acoustic Design technology, the RS20MM pairs a chambered body for enhanced resonance and low weight with a carbon-reinforced neck for strength and stability. A push-pull Focus Switch and five-way switching system provide a broad range of tones, while a refined neck heel as per Mancuso’s request improves upper-fret access. Additionally, the instrument sports a vintage sunburst finish with a flame-maple top, all-gold hardware, a custom logo inlay at the 12th fret, and Mancuso’s signature on the truss rod cover.
Mancuso explains. “This signature model is an evolution of the custom Yamaha Revstar I’ve relied on for years, both onstage and in the studio. From the very beginning, the goal was to create an instrument that delivers the versatility, dynamic response, and articulation my playing demands. I’m thrilled that players can now experience the guitar that has been at the heart of my sound and make it part of their own musical journey.”
The RS20MM is available now, priced at $1,599.99. For greater gleanings, peruse the Matteo Mancuso Signature Revstar overview.
