With the goal of advancing remote collaborations, Soundtrap, a cloud-based digital audio workstation (DAW), now offers VST compatibility. As a result, creators can use effects plugins they have licenses for via the desktop version of Soundtrap, allowing them to instantly listen back to projects using these effects across mobile, tablet, and web sessions and in real time on shared Soundtrap projects.

Virtual Studio Technology (VST) plugins are an important part of music making and audio production, however, making them work in the cloud is a challenge. Via VSTs, Soundtrap makes EQ, reverb, delay, distortion, and pitch correction accessible to collaborators, no matter where they are located.
Soundtrap’s desktop version scans for VSTs on a user’s machine, then syncs them with Soundtrap’s cloud-based ecosystem. Users can then combine locally installed plugins with shared projects and access their sessions on other devices. When a user collaborates remotely with someone, that person can hear the VST in real time in the Soundtrap project, even if they don’t have the same effect.
When collaborators have a license for a VST, they can both play and edit using the effect in the same project while conversing over a video call function. For example, a singer can use AutoTune on a take while the producer simultaneously listens and gives feedback from another location. The result is a more collaborative and creative remote production.
Additionally, Soundtrap is teaming up with AutoTune maker Antares to offer Soundtrap users a free month of the AutoTune plugin. For deeper details and greater gleanings, visit the Soundtrap website.
